According to imdb Penn will star in two new movies: The Three Stooges(a Comedy that will be release at November’s 20th) – playing Larry Fine – and Fair Game(a Biography that will be release at 2011) – playing Joseph Wilson.
Here’s a short synopsis of Fair Game:
Plame’s status as a CIA agent was revealed by White House officials allegedly out to discredit her husband after he wrote a 2003 New York Times op-ed piece saying that the Bush administration had manipulated intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.
The cast list of these two movies includes Naomi Watts and Johnny Depp.
Hollywood actors Dustin Hoffman and Sean Penn were the toast of the French movie industry on Friday (27Feb09) night – with tributes at the annual Cesar Awards.
Hoffman received a lifetime achievement prize at the glittering ceremony in Paris, France while Penn was a guest of honour at the event.
Penn took to the stage to present the prestigious Best Film award to French movie Seraphine, which went on to win six more trophies including Best Actress for Yolande Moreau.
The Milk star’s own movie, In The Wild, was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category, but lost out to Israeli animated documentary Waltz With Bashir.
The night’s other big winner was gangster film Mesrine which landed three trophies, including Best Actor for Vincent Cassel and Best Director for Jean-Francois Richet.
French school drama Entre les murs (The Class) – which won the Cannes film festival in 2008 – was lauded with the Cesar for Best Adaptation.
The pin, shirt, suit and tie seen on Sean Penn as real-life hero Harvey Milk in Focus Features Milk is currently up for auction to raise money for charity.
The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation is a 501c3 organization that hosts charity auctions showcasing today’s hottest celebrity attire. Items are put up for bid to the public with proceeds going to benefit children’s charities. Clothes Off Our Back was founded by actors and philanthropists Jane Kaczmarek (”Malcolm In The Middle,” “Raising the Bar”) and Bradley Whitford (”The West Wing,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”) whose efforts, along with their celebrity and designer friends have helped improve the lives of children across the globe.
To me this was the highlight of the Oscars. I really thought Mickey Rourke was going to win for The Wrestler but when they announced Sean Penn for his role as gay activist Harvey Milk, I jumped up and applauded.
Sean went on to say in his acceptance speech that the people in California who voted for Prop 8 should be ashamed and it would affect future generations of their families. I don’t remember the speech word for word but it was great and uplifting. He spoke about equal rights and marriage. It was very heartwarming and I hope goes a long way to reversing the idiocy of passage of Prop 8.
Got “Milk”? If not, here’s a chance to get one of the suits (including shirt and tie) worn by Sean Penn in his Oscar-nominated role as Harvey Milk.
The suit was designed for a scene in the film “Milk” to replicate that worn by the real Milk on election night Nov. 7, 1978, when a referendum to bar gays from teaching in California public schools was defeated. Milk was the first openly gay man to be elected to a major public office (the San Francisco Board of Supervisors). The film is nominated for a total of eight Academy Awards, including best picture and best costume design.
The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation, founded by the acting couple Jane Kaczmarek (”Malcolm in the Middle”) and Bradley Whitford (”The West Wing”), will host the online auction of costume designer Danny Glicker’s ensemble. The auction is running online at the foundation’s Web site, clothesoffourback.org, and ends Feb. 28. The minimum bid was $1,000, but stood at $4,500 after the first three bidders. The suit was custom-made for Penn, and is approximately a 40 regular.
Proceeds from the auction will be divided equally, with 50 percent going to Variety—The Children’s Charity of Southern California and 50 percent going to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of Harvey Milk High School, in New York City.
Mickey Rourke reportedly wants rival Sean Penn to win the Oscar for best actor at this month’s ceremony.
The star claimed that Penn helped him to turn his life around during his well-documented problems in the mid-1990s, WENN reports.
Rourke has been nominated for his part in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler while Penn is up for the same award for the title role in the biopic Milk.
“Sean Penn is a good friend of mine,” Rourke said.
“When I was down and out, he got hold of me and told me exactly what to do and not to do. I owe him so much that I hope he wins the award.”
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Rourke and Penn had resolved their differences over drinks at the Sunset Tower in Hollywood, following reports that Rourke had previously called Penn homophobic.
Director Gus Van Sant says Sean Penn’s experience of political activism helped make him a good choice to play Harvey Milk, the politician and gay rights activist, in the Oscar-nominated “Milk.”
Van Sant presented the movie Tuesday at the Berlin film festival, where it is showing out of competition.
When the movie’s makers considered Penn for the lead role, “there were many political speeches that you could hear him give,” Van Sant said at a news conference. They “thought that he could do that part of the movie, the political speaking part,” he added.
“His politics, not necessarily the type of politics, but (the fact) that he was politically motivated and active, was out there expressing himself” made Penn a good choice, Van Sant said.
Penn was a prominent opponent of the Iraq war and called for former President George W. Bush to be impeached.
“Milk” has eight Oscar nominations, including for best movie. Penn and Van Sant are nominated for best actor and best director respectively.
Oscar rivals Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke put aside their differences and did a tandem video accepting their Boston Society of Film Critics dual award for Best Actor at the society’s annual gala last night.
The Tinseltown twosome, who are running neck-and-neck for the Academy Award for Best Actor, did a prerecorded 45-second acceptance speech thanking the society for, as Penn put it, being “indecisive Irish men and women.”
“We want to thank you very much for your indecisivness,” Rourke added. “It’s brought us closer together.”
Well, that’s good, because last we checked, Mickey was trashing his old pal Sean, saying he didn’t even think Penn would be nominated for an Oscar for his acclaimed turn in “Milk”
Rourke, who resurrected his broken-down career with a killer performance in “The Wrestler,” was backstage at David Letterman in December – before the Oscar nominations were announced – saying that he didn’t consider Penn his competition.
“I’m not even sure he’ll get a nomination,” he reportedly remarked.
The Daily Beast later reported that Rourke sent them a text message that read: “Look seans an old friend of mine and i didnt buy his performance at all, thought he did an average pretend, acting like he was gay besides hes one of the most homophobic people i kno” (all sic).
Truth be told, the Hollywood heavies looked a little uncomfortable together at the beginning of the broadcast, but were hugging it out by the end.
Rourke, who appeared with his very odd-looking dog, Loki, did manage to inject a shot of the bizarre into the proceedings when he randomly asked, “and I’d like to know why you guys traded away, ah, ah, ah, Nomar Garciaparra .”
Hey, Mickey, so would we!
Penn, looking a little lost, replied, “I don’t follow sports, but Mickey has his dog, so we’re covered.”
Huh?
BTW, the Best Actor award wasn’t the only tie at the society’s annual awards gala. “Slumdog Millionaire” and “WALL-E” tied for Best Picture. Other winners included the late Heath Ledger, who copped the Best Supporting Actor prize for his portrayal of The Joker in “Dark Knight.”
London-born Sally Hawkins won Best Actress for her quirky turn in “Happy-Go-Lucky” and Penelope Cruz took the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”
Sean Penn’s fake moustache fell into his co-star’s mouth during a gay kiss scene in new movie ‘Milk’.
The actor – who plays Harvey Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official in the film – couldn’t help giggling when his facial hair slipped during a love scene with James Franco.
On set advisor Cleve Jones said: “I was a bit worried about the kissing scenes, I thought there might be awkward moments or stupid jokes. But they never happened – only silly things, like Sean’s moustache coming off in James’ mouth.”
James has previously claimed Sean personally requested more gay sex scenes to be written into the movie.
He said: “In the original script I read, there was only one real kissing scene. A month after the director Gus Van Sant asked me to do it, they sent me another script, and on page five there was a full-on love scene. And I was like, ‘Gus, what the heck?’ He says, ‘Well, it was Sean’s idea.’ “
Sean Penn is stunned pal Benicio Del Toro hasn’t been recognised for his portrayal of revolutionary CHE GUEVARA in biopic CHE.Penn singled out Del Toro as one name the film award organisations had overlooked during his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on 25 January (09), and he’s still struggling to come to terms with the fact the four-hour epic has become the forgotten movie of 2009.
He says, “The fact that there aren’t crowns on (Che director Steven) Soderbergh’s and Benicio Del Toro’s heads right now, I don’t understand.
“That is such a sensational movie, Che. Benicio is f**king good in it. And the fact that I’m not running into these people on this awards-party circuit, it’s crazy.
“Maybe because it’s (Che) in Spanish, maybe the length, maybe the politics.”
Penn will compete in the Best Actor category at the upcoming Academy Awards on 22 February (09) for his role in Milk. He will go up against Brad Pitt, Mickey Rourke, Frank Langella and Richard Jenkins.
